Brief Description

Barcelona often comes up when discussing football, but this capital city has much more to offer than Lionel Messi. Located on the northeastern coast of Spain, this Mediterranean sea port is an architectural haven with a cultural life to match.

Barcelona has a rich history that can be traced back over two thousand years to the Roman Empire, when it was called Barcino. While the name has changed, this picturesque Roman architecture can still be found in the city's historical center titled the Gothic Quarter. The Barcelona Cathedral offers a glimpse into 14th century gothic architecture with its luxurious golden interiors and skyscraper-tall stained glass windows. After soaking up history  at the basilica La Sagrada Familia and Picasso Museum, soak up the sun at the city’s most renowned Barceloneta Beach, where you can take a soak or eat your heart out at a beachside restaurant. Just don't forget to finish your day with a spanish tradition - Gelato!

Though Barcelona is a mecca for historical attractions, its social life is anything but ancient. There's no better way to experience the eccentric culture of Spain than by attending the Catalan festival. Spanning July to August, you can look forward to a Saturday filled with dance and music performances, and of course the Human Tower of Catalonia.
