What you'll do
Take a closer look at Fukuoka’s ancient and medieval history
Start your tour at the Dazaifu Tenmangu Temple and learn about the riveting history of a 9th-century scholar and politician. Through the temple walls and architecture, time travel and envision yourself living in medieval Japan. Next, head to Tochoji Temple and continue your journey through time. The iconic structure from ancient Hakata will fill you with wonder. Don’t think that this is all that Fukuoka has to offer though because there is more to come! Time travel through Fukuoka’s spectacular shrine The next leg of your journey will kick off at Komyo Zen Ji, where you can take in the serene atmosphere of the Shinto-Buddhist shrine and surround yourself with colorful flowers on the complex. Beyond the incredible history, the architecture will leave you stunned. The only place more immersive will be the Machiya Merchant House - an immersive museum that will be the cherry on top of this historical excursion.
