Travel back in time to the 6th Century BCE at Vieux Port
The Vieux Port is likely where it all began, over 2,000 years ago. This is why it only makes sense for you to begin your journey at this historic port. Stroll through the lively lanes and take a look at the variety of shops and restaurants that line the port. As you walk through the area, your guide will tell you about the crucial role Vieux Port played in the maritime history of Southern France during the 19th century. Take it all in as you head to the Palais Longchamp - an 1869 monument hoisted by the Durance River to celebrate the new waterway network. Explore Marseille’s crowning jewel The heart and soul of the city, however, is the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde. It is located in the same area as an ancient fort, which also happens to be on the highest spot in the city. While the newer structure was built in 1864, it replaced an older 11th-century church of the same name. Learn about the Romanesque and Neo-Byzantine architectural styles of the grand structure and explore the interiors with your guide. Once you’re done, you will be taken to your final stop for the day - Cap Croisette. The charming area will treat you to dazzling views of the Mediterranean Sea and will be the perfect place for you to wrap your tour up.
