The only way to get a feel of the real Bahamas is to leave the bustling cities behind, and there is no better place than Acklins to revel in the raw beauty of the Caribbean. A private boat will pick you up from the pier and take you to the Bight of Acklins, a 500 square mile lagoon that is no more than 5 feet deep! This is the perfect place to go swimming even if you are a non-swimmer since the waters are extremely calm and serene. If you’re not in the mood to swim, feel free to take a long stroll by the beach or simply relax on the buttery sands by the bay. Afterwards, you will be taken to a local village where you will get free time to eat some lunch and explore on your own. Dive into the ancient history of the Bahamas The Lucayan legacy may not be as well known as the colonial heritage in the Caribbean, but it is just as fascinating. There are over 10 ancient sites excavated by archaeologists in and around Acklins, Long Cay, and Crooken Island. Explore a handful of these sights while your local guide fills you in with the long and tragic history of the Lucayan civilization before and during the time of Colombus. Before you know it, it will be time for you to return to your boat. Feel the fresh sea breeze on your face as you ponder over the beauty of Acklins and return to your ship with a heart full of happy memories!
